What are Varicose Veins?

Varicose veins are swollen, twisted veins, that appear just under the surface of the skin. Similar to spider veins, varicose veins are often seen on the legs, but can also form on the face and other parts of the body. Varicose veins occur when blood is being backed up in your veins, causing the veins to swell, which can ultimately lead to varicose veins.

Some of the most common symptoms of varicose veins include, but are not limited to:

-Mild to moderate pain

-Inflammation of the skin or skin ulcers near your ankle

-Throbbing or muscle cramping/swelling in your lower legs

-Color changes of veins (often blue or dark purple)

Luckily, there are many options when it comes to treating varicose veins. Most treatments for varicose veins involves sealing off the diseased vein and rerouting its blood to other, healthier veins. For more information about the latest development in treating varicose veins, read about how Dr. Rao and his Houston based vein clinic, Texas Vein & Wellness Institute, have been leaders in using a new, low pain treatment called VenaSeal!
